Last week Benjamin Moore announced their colour for 2016 was - surprise - 'Simply White'! Well, here at Oudejans Interiors we've been using said colour for a long time prior to that accolade. Here's 4 reasons why we use it (and 'converted' clients swear by it) and why you should try it too:
1. It's a 'neutral' backdrop enhancing other colours, features and furniture. The phrase "it pops" is used all to often on design programs, but with Simply White, it truly is the case. This paint creates a blank slate, flattering the other elements in the composition and allowing them to stand out.
2. A less demanding room won't date as quickly as one clad in vibrant, trendy colours. Save those for the accents. It also offers a refreshing break from more intense coloration, which can be distracting. And due to its subtlety, Simply White works well with both warm and cool hues.
3. White is perceived as clean, calm and fresh and is therefore particularly welcome in areas such as kitchens and bathrooms where germs are deemed to rule. Colour psychology also states that white is associated with happiness, serenity and purity - great attributes for a happy home!
4. It enlarges, brightens and enlivens spaces. Research shows that white makes a room feel more spacious and its ceilings appear higher. It is also classic, yet contemporary, blending simplicity with sophistication. So, for a multipurpose, crisp, light look the choice is simply, white.
