The warm weather brings a mass migration to the outdoors and entertaining takes on a (thankfully) less fussy approach. Sweating over summer soiree preparations? Make it effortless by hosting outside, get guests to pitch in and embrace a relaxed, budget-friendly décor. These 4 tips will make party planning a piece of cake.
1. ARRANGE SEATING – if short on outdoor furniture there are simple solutions. Create one long table by putting two or three smaller ones together – the dramatic effect will wow them! Otherwise find some sawhorses and top them with a length of board as big as desired. Paint the board, cover it with cloth or simply decorate it for a rustic/shabby chic aesthetic. Place the table where there’s some shade to keep comfortable.
2. CREATE CONTAINERS – cold drinks storage can be fashioned from an old crate lined with plastic, or a wheelbarrow or metal bucket filled with ice. Vintage crates can also act as a tray for serving drinks or transporting glasses, tableware and other essentials out to the garden. Reuse Mason jars to store utensils or napkins alongside the centerpiece.
3. DEFINITELY DECORATE – the fun part is letting the imagination run wild. Old jars can be filled with sand, pebbles or shells for a beach party theme. Pop bottles become vases poised with flowers or boughs from the garden. Tin cans with holes drilled in them transform into Warholesque candle holders. Lanterns and signage can boost ambience and welcome visitors or reveal what’s on the menu.
4. INVOLVE GUESTS – ok, to keep things really stress free, have a few friends arrive early to assist with preparing drinks (they may insist on sampling them though!), setting up seating areas, building a fire or putting out decorations. Make sure to have Green Moxie’s DIY repellent on hand to ensure no one gets bitten and enjoy the party!
